UCDI®Technology is our contribution to this end. UCDI®Technology utilizes CO2 as a raw material to realize new lifestyles across many fields. Towards the mission of preventing global warming, UCDI brought together biotechnology experts to our Hongo Research Center housed within the premises of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Tokyo. Their collective dedication and enthusiasm drive continued innovations.

Aug 2015: Establishment of UCDI with a capital of 28.5 million Yen to utilize CO2 and H2 as primary ingredients for development, manufacturing, and commercialization of single cell protein, biofuels and industrial chemicals. Sep Capital increase to 30 million Yen. Jan 2016: Signing of Joint Research Agreement on basic analysis and application of Hydrogen Oxidizing Bacteria with the Applied Microbiology Laboratory in the Department of Applied Biological Chemistry, University of Tokyo. Apr Start of research within the premises of the Applied Microbiology Laboratory. Jun 2016 supplementary budget Support for Improving Manufacturing, Commercial, and Service Management Advancement from the Small and Medium Enterprise Agency. Oct Introductory meeting of Biofeeds Consortium for Aquaculture bringing together seven private companies and one national research institute. Feb 2018: External injection of capital and cash reserves to 132.9 million Yen. Mar Setting up of Hongo Research Center within the premises of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Tokyo. Apr External injection of capital and cash reserves to 162.9 million Yen. May Grant for Industrial Property Rights Acquisition from Minato-ward, Tokyo. Jun 2017 supplementary budget Support for Improving Manufacturing, Commercial, and Service Management Capabilities from the Small and Medium Enterprise Agency. Jul 2018 grant for Supporting Development of New Products and Technologies from Minato-ward, Tokyo. Dec Dr. M. Takase, former Managing Director of Morinaga Milk Co., joins as a special advisor to UCDI. Patent JP 6450912 (Production of Iso-butanol from CO2 for use as Ingredient of Jet-fuel) approved. Feb 2019 Mr. M. Haga, former Managing Director of Japan Airlines Co., joins as a special advisor to UCDI. Mar Patent JP 6485828 (Production of Ethanol from CO2 for use as Ingredient of Polyethylene) approved. Apr Start of three-year Japan Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (Fisheries Agency) project (Development Plan of Domestic Alternative Ingredient for Fishmeal using Hydrogen Oxidizing Bacteria) to which UCDI contributes biofeed samples and expertise in development of production process. May Patent JP 6528295 (Production of Alanine from CO2 for use as a Food Additive or Chelating Agent) approved. Aug World’s first patent to describe production of lactic acid from CO2 (JP 6562374) granted. Oct Patent JP 6604584 (Production of Valine from CO2 for use as a Feed Additive) approved. Mr. K. Hashimoto, Vice Chairman & President, KEIZAI DOYUKAI (Japan Association of Corporate Executives), joins UCDI as External Director. Nov Presentation of CO2 Biocombinat™ concept at New Technology Briefings sponsored by the Port Authority, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport. Jun 2021 Head Office and Research Institute moved to Aomi, Koto-ku,Tokyo. Nov Commenced collaboration with Taiyo Oil Co., Ltd. to research the production of biojet fuel using hydrogen bacteria. Mar 2022 Received the EY Innovative Startup 2022 Award (sponsored by EY ShinNihon LLC), which recognizes startups across Japan with potential for significant future growth. Jun Appointed Mr. Jin Yoshida, former President and CEO of Japan Securities Agents Co., Ltd. an Auditor of the Company. Dec Commenced collaboration with Fujifilm Corporation to develop a mass production technology utilizing hydrogen-oxidizing bacteria to produce biomass from carbon dioxide as the main feedstock. ~Promoting research into amino acid production~ Jun 2023 Appointed Executive Officer Mr. Hiroshi Maeda a Director of the Company. Aug Secured research funding from the 2023 Research Grant of the Carbon Recycling Fund (CRF) Institute. Dec Secured research funding from the Small and Medium Enterprise Innovation Project of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. Aug 2024 Head office and Research Institute moved to Daiba, Minato-ku, Tokyo. Aug 2025 Commenced Feasibility Study on the Production of Next-Generation Ethanol derived from CO2, a collaboration with Cosmo Energy Holdings Co., Ltd. based on anticipated future demand for ethanol. Feb 2026 Selected by the Tokyo Metropolitan Small and Medium Enterprise Support Center for the “Product Development Support Project for Zero Emission Business Transformation (Product Development Grant).
